THE WATER CIRCULATION CONDITIONS IN THE GROUNDWATER BODY NO. 141

Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2012, Vol 451, Issue 451

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to create a numerical model of the hydrogeological conditions of groundwater bodies (GWB) 139, 140 and 141. The study area is located in the southern part of the Opole Voivodeship and the Silesian Voivodeship, near the Poland/ Czech Republic border. The aquifers occur in Quaternary, Neogene, Cretaceous and Carboniferous rocks. The numerical model area was divided into blocks with dimensions of 120 × 100, pertaining to 453 columns, 360 rows and 8 layers. Layers numbered I–VI were determined in the Quaternary rocks, layer VII – in the Neogene rock, and layer VIII – in the Carboniferous rocks. Based on the modelling studies, groundwater outflow from GWB 141 was estimated at 1154 m[sup]3[/sup]/d. The average value of infiltration is 46.5 mm/a – 6.5% of the average rainfall from years 2006–2010. Recharge Module of GWB 141 is 1.49 l/s/km[sup]2[/sup]. The total cross-border flows from the Czech Republic amounts to 4331.87 m[sup]3[/sup]/d, which occurs from the budget zones of Hrozowa and Psina catchment area. Direction of water flow in each layer of the model has been determined. The groundwater flows in layers I - VI and in the western part of layer VIII are constrained by the river system. The groundwater outflow from the eastern part of layer VIII occurs towards the east (Upper Silesian Coal Basin).
