Theoretical and empirical analysis of environmental protection investment enabling common prosperity

Abstract
[Objective] The study was conducted to clarify the functional path between environmental protection investment and common prosperity by analyzing the impact of environmental protection investment on common prosperity. [Method] Based on the economic growth theory and China’s environmental protection policy, an economic model of two regions and two departments was established, and the environmental protection input factor was included to theoretically study how the environmental protection input affects common prosperity. The multiple nonlinear regression equation was built to empirically analyze the impact of environmental protection investment on common prosperity. [Result] (1) There is a positive relationship between environmental protection investment and economic growth; The investment in environmental protection is inversely related to the gap between the rich and the poor. (2) Investment in environmental protection has significantly promoted common prosperity and is robust. The difference GMM model analysis shows that the benchmark regression analysis has underestimated the impact of environmental protection investment on common prosperity. [Conclusion] It is concluded that the government should increase investment in environmental protection, investment in industrial pollution control and support for green finance, expand income increasing channels for low-income residents, and expand middle-income groups to promote common prosperity.
