THOUGHTS ON BLOG AS A GENRE. TO THE PROBLEM OF THE WEB-TEXT FUNCTIONALITY (ON THE BASIS OF POLITICAL BLOGS PUBLISHED ON «UKRAINSKA PRAVDA»)

Abstract
The problem of blog genre definition is studied in the article. Some researchers refer blogs to cybergenres, wherein blogs functionality considered as one of the main feature. Functionality means hypertextuality, multimedia and interactivity. The discovering of the political blogs hypertextuality, multimedia and interactivity is the purpose of the study. «Ukrainska Pravda» blogs are the material the research. The number of texts with hyperlinks is 53 %. Links depend on desire of blogger, so we can’t regard it as one of the main formal genre feature. The blog interactivity character has been changed recently. Bloggers rarely reply to comments (21 % of bloggers). The more popular is the author the less likely he or she reacts to the readers. Bloggers frequently post only text (53 %), seldom add photo (24 %) and video (23 %). So the typical political blog is post with a small amount of links, photos and video, blogger rarely reacts on the comments. Functionality can’t be defined as the main feature of the blog. Rare hypertextuality use may be regarded as the evidence of advocacy priority as the main political blog task. Blogs link on official and mainstream media frequently, so they can be seen as a part of traditional political communication. The same conclusion about political blogs was made by American scientists (L. Kenix). Ukrainian political blogs initiate one-way communication as traditional mass media does. The text is the center of political blog, photo and video play a supporting role. The audience of such texts must be competent and critical. So political blog has many similar features with traditional text and can’t be regarded as a genre or alternative media. The one quarter of bloggers on «Ukrainska Pravda» are politicians and another one are journalists of mainstream media. Citizen activists post rarely. Ukrainian political blogs can’t be alternative media with alternative authors and sources.
