Three point contouring of 95 degree DCS plate & its advantages for fixation of sub trochanteric femur fracture
Journal Title: International Journal of Orthopaedics Sciences - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Introduction: Subtrochateric region is an area of 5 cm below the lesser trochanter in femur. One of the methods for fixation of subtrochanteric femur fracture is by using 95 angled DCS (Dynamic Compression Screw) barrel plate. Though it’s not the best implant for subtrochanteric internal fixation, in our setting it is one of the good option. To overcome the limitations of 95° DCS we suggested three point contouring of 95° DCS which provides it an anatomical reduction and good results. Material & Methods: Study includes 38 patients who are admitted in our hospital with subtrochanteric femur fracture out of which 29 were male and 9 were female. All the patients are treated with 95° DCS Barrel plate with three point contouring. Patients are then followed up in our Out Patient department. Results: Out of 38 patients 37(96.4%) patient had a union without any complication while one patient had non-union which after bone grafting united. Conclusion: 3 point contouring of 95 DCS gives good result compared to conventional 95 DCS barrel plate.

Management of medial malleolar fractures by tension band wiring: A prospective study
Medial malleolar fractures are most common injury seen in day today practice. Management of undisplaced fracture is plaster of Paris cast application. And for the fractures displaced more than 2 mm needs surgery. Here we...
Functional outcome of transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion for lytic and degenerative spondylolisthesis
Introduction: Spondylolisthesis is defined as the forward displacement of one vertebra over the vertebra below. It is often accompanied by spinal canal stenosis and compression, which is the cause of all the symptoms. Ai...
A comparative study of functional outcomes of fractures treated with plating versus conservative for complex proximal humerus fractures in elderly
Introduction: Most proximal humerus fractures are minimally displaced, low energy osteoporotic fractures and are effectively treated with conservative treatment. But for those that have moderate to severe displacement, t...
A comparative study of displaced midshaft clavicle fracture managed by precontoured locking compression plates and titanium elastic nails
Background: Results of conservatively managed mid-shaft clavicle fractures are not as good as previously thought. This has lead to increasing interest in primary fixation of these fractures. There are two main techniques...
A study of humerus shaft fractures treated with dynamic compression plating
Background and Objective: Management of humeral shaft fractures has historically been largely conservative. A significant body of literature has shown that functional bracing may achieve greater than 90% union rates and...
