TINJA : UN CHENAL DE TRANSITION HYDROLOGIQUE ET GEOCHIMIQUE ENTRE LAGUNE DE BIZERTE ET GARAET ICHKEUL (NE TUNISIEN)

Journal Title: Larhyss Journal - Year 2011, Vol 9, Issue 9

Abstract

Tinja's channel assures the waters and materials exchanges, and so the perpetuity of the hydrological system: Bizerte’s lagoon –Tinja - Ichkeul lake for a ten kilometres distance. A mineralogical, geochemical sediments and waters study of the system formed by Bizerte's lagoon- Ichkeul lake and Tinja's channel, realizes the complexity schema of physico-chemical exchanges and anthropogenic interactions with the environmental constituents of this system. An environmental comparative valuation of two basins: Bizerte's lagoon - Ichkeul lake, realizes that elements as the iron and the zinc in the Bizerte's lagoon sediments possess the most raised values, with regard to those registered in the Ichkeul’s lake deposits. This is due essentially to an industrial sources continuous contribution in these elements, notably the Menzel Bourguiba's siderurgy. On the contrary, copper, cadmium and nickel are sharply more concentrated in the Ichkeul’s lake surface waters, compared with those of Bizerte's lagoon. This results from a natural contribution of metals in the lake waters by running off from river basin. The rivers feeder waters, leach and drain ore dump and refuse dump (Pb, Zn, Fe) implanted in river basin of Ichkeul lake, besides geothermal sources and a water table supply probably contaminated by a heavy metal load, and by anthropogenic urban and industrial waste. Tinja's channel tells an unusual, curious phenomenon, because inorganic elements concentrations are raised and exceed values found for the two Ichkeul and Bizerte's lagoon basins. Enrichment in heavy metals of this canal translates its major role of connection emissary as for the materials transfers (hydrology, mineralogy, environment, and geochemistry) in the various constituent organs of the complex Ichkeul lake - tinja - Bizerte's lagoon.
