Titanium Implant Osseointegration in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients: Report of Two Cases
Journal Title: Journal of Dental School Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 35, Issue 4
Abstract
Objectives Dental implant rehabilitation in patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been reported to improve the quality of life. Implant treatment success depends on many factors such as appropriate osseointegration. There are many controversies about the interactions of antirheumatic drugs and osseointegration. Moreover, the scientific evidence regarding implant survival in RA patients is scarce. Cases This study presents two cases including a 65-year-old and a 51-year-old woman who were under treatment with low dose methotrexate and other antirheumatic drugs and received dental implants. Conclusion All implants were integrated and loaded successfully. After 4-years of follow-up, all implant are stable clinically and radiographically, the patients are satisfied with the function and esthetics. Because of the lack of agreement on implant treatment protocol in RA patients, more studies are suggested.
