TO ASSESS THE EFFICACY OF MICRO NEEDLING THERAPY IN FACIAL ACNE SCARS

Abstract

BACKGROUND Acne vulgaris is polymorphic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous follicle which occurs most commonly on the face and to a lesser extent on the back and chest. Scars may increase with loss of collagen. Prevalence data on acne is variable, depending on the population studied and time of the study. It affects nearly 80% people at some point of time between the ages of 11-30 years. METHODS The present study was a hospital based prospective cohort study conducted on patient having facial acne scars attending the Out Patient Department of Dermatology, Venereology, & Leprosy, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. The study was performed on 30 patients having facial acne scars. An informed written consent was obtained from all the patients who were enrolled. RESULTS 100% improvement of ‘V’ Shaped scar was seen in 3 patients and 50% improvement of ‘V’ shaped scar was seen in 7 patients and in one patient no improvement was seen before micro needling. 100% improvement of ‘m’ shaped scar was seen in 15 patients and 50% improvement of ‘m’ shaped scar was seen in 15 patients and in one patient no improvement was seen before micro needling. CONCLUSIONS Facial acne scar is the chief complaint of dermatological patients. Numerous treatment options are available. After micro needling therapy patients with facial acne scars show significant improvement.
