Abstract

The obituary is dedicated to the memory of Mikhail Viktorovich Gorelik (researcher, RAS Institute of Oriental Studies) – archaeologist, art historian and orientalist, a unique specialist with the widest range of interests: from the history of arms to the Mongol outfit and from the Ancient East to the late Middle Ages. He was a recognized expert in the history of arms belonging to various epochs, countries and peoples: from Mesopotamia and China to the Scythians and Mongols. M.V. Gorelik is the author of multiple works on the history of arms of Oriental peoples and on the Mongol-Tatar military organization. He created of many graphical reconstructions of the outfit and arms of ancient warriors, as well as real items for museum exhibitions displayed in various museum expositions of Moscow, Kazan, Kiev, Leeds, and other cities. He was the editor of “Batyr” magazine on the military history of Eurasian peoples, which has become one of the finest periodicals at the intersection of historical science, archaeology and art history.
