TO THE PROBLEM OF ACTIVATION OF THE COGNITIVE ACTIVITY OF MENTALLY RETARDED STUDENTS AT THE LESSONS OF THE COURSE ІЯ«GEOGRAPHY OF UKRAINE»

Abstract
The article describes the problem of how to increase the effectiveness of socio- economic knowledge base formation in the intellectually disabled students. In order to conduct the ascertaining experiment, we used methods of observation, interviewing teachers and students, analyzing educational and programmatic documentation, studying teachers’ activities, studying the style of teaching the program material, assimilating their students, developing skills in them, and transferring acquired knowledge in practical activities. As a result of pedagogical research, a low level of socio-economic knowledge and lack of skills for using previously acquired knowledge in new situations was determined. The conclusions obtained in the course of the ascertaining experiment make it possible to assert that there is the need to identify and systematize the methods and forms of learning that contribute to the correction of the disruptions of the intellectual activity and the activation of the cognitive processes of mentally retarded schoolchildren. According to the results of the c ascertaining stage of the pedagogical study the main means of activating the cognitive activity of mentally retarded students within the framework of studying the course “Geography of Ukraine” were determined: problem-based learning, use of works of art, music and painting, use of information and computer technology, use of creative tasks, didactic games, project technology training, as well, as non-traditional forms of conducting lessons. The authors of the article give examples of the usage of each of the listed facilities within the framework of studying the course “Geography of Ukraine”.
