Tolerance potential of different species of Aspergillus as bioremediation tool - comparative analysis
Journal Title: Journal of Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences (JBES) - Year 2013, Vol 3, Issue 4
Abstract
Due to increase of industrialization in public and private sectors along with urbanization, are reflected in varying degree of pollution in the different compartment (water, soil and air) of environment. The present study has been carried out to understand the tolerance potential of different species of Aspergillus (Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspegillus fumigatus) isolated from agriculture soil of Kasur irrigated with water contaminated with sewage and industrial effluent. The degree of tolerance of fungi was measured by minimum inhibitory concentration in the presence of different concentrations of metals (Cr and Pb) and compared to control sample. Results are shown the variation in the tolerance level of different isolates of Aspergillus. Few isolates are tolerant, moderately tolerant and some are sensitive.

A survey on influence of summer monsoon on diversity and density of bivalves in the Iranian Coasts of Oman Sea
Seasonal winds (Monsoon) significantly affect the ecological and environmental characteristics of Oman Sea and its sea-bed; in fact monsoon, being the obvious seasonal feature of the area, are the major factor in changi...
Evaluation of callus formation and embryogenesis in saffron (Crocus sativus L.) for flower harvesting
Crocus sativus is belonging to Iridaceae. Due to its triploid nature it is sterile and is not able to set seeds, so it is propagated only by corms. Breeding and producing corms with free pathogens especially viruses is...
CO2 aplication as growth stimulator of seagrass, Thalassia hemprichii under laboratory condition
Seagrass study needs to be continuously developed in order to know its potentiality of storing carbon. One of the studies uses carbondioxide (CO2) as growth rate indicator of the seagrass, Thalassia hemprichii, in a con...
Impact of underground coal mining on surface water and ground water quality
Groundwater contamination and depletion resulting from underground coal mining activities is a worldwide environmental problem. The pumping of groundwater from flooded columns during underground coal mining deteriorate...
Analysis of genetic diversity in bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis L.) populations using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers
Bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis L.) is one of the most harmful weed species in Turkey. Using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers, It investigated the genetic diversity within and among five local populations...
