TOROIDAL MODELS OF MAGNETIC FIELD WITH TWISTED STRUCTURE
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2019, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
We present and discuss properties of the following magnetic field models in a magnetic cloud: Miller and Turner solution, modified Miller–Turner solution, Romashets–Vandas toroidal and integral models, and Krittinatham–Ruffolo model. Helicity of the magnetic field in all the models is the main feature of magnetic clouds. The first three models describe the magnetic field inside an ideal torus. In the integral model, parameters of a generating torus ambiguously determine the volume and form of the magnetic field region. In the Krittinatham–Ruffolo model, the cross-section radius of the torus is variable, thereby it corresponds more closely to the real form of magnetic clouds in the inner heliosphere. These models can be used to interpret in-situ observations of the magnetic flux rope, to study a Forbush decrease in magnetic clouds and transport effects of solar energetic particles injected into a coronal mass ejection.

PECULIARITIES OF 630.0 AND 557.7 NM EMISSIONS IN THE MAIN IONOSPHERIC TROUGH: MARCH 17, 2015
Peculiarities of 557.7 and 630.0 nm emissions observed in the second step of the magnetic storm main phase at the mid-latitude observatory Tory (52° N, 103° E) on March 17, 2015 are compared with the changes in ionospher...
GEOMETRIC FACTOR IN SEASONAL VARIATIONS OF DAILY AVERAGE VALUES OF THE GEOMAGNETIC INDEX Dₛₜ
The work uses data on the geomagnetic index Dst for the period 1966–2015. Under quiet conditions, the occurrence of seasonal variations of the daily average Dst index depends on geometric factors of the interaction betwe...
IONOSPHERIC RESPONSE TO THE PASSAGE OF TYPHOONS OBSERVED BY SUBIONOSPHERIC VLF RADIO SIGNALS
The response of the lower ionosphere to the passage of several dozen typhoons has been studied using a regional network of VLF stations in the Russian Far East. The experimental data presented in all cases clearly demons...
MEASUREMENT OF ENERGY DISTRIBUTION FOR LOW POWER NANOFLARES
We propose a method to measure the energy distribution of low-energy flares (nanoflares) in the energy range below 1023 erg. As an example, we measured the spectrum of nanoflares in the 1021–1026 erg range for two Sun’s...
ANALYZING SOLAR, COSMIC, AND GEOPHYSICAL EVENTS IN SEPTEMBER 2017 USING SHICRA SB RAS COMPLEX OBSERVATIONS
We report the results of monitoring of cosmic rays and geomagnetic field along 210 magnetic meridians in Yakutia in the first half of September 2017. The energy spectrum of solar cosmic rays during Ground Level Enhanceme...
