Torque Ripple Minimization and Performance Investigation of an In-Wheel Permanent Magnet Motor
Journal Title: Engineering, Technology & Applied Science Research - Year 2016, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
Recently, electric vehicle motoring has become a topic of interest, due to the several problems caused by thermal engines such as pollution and high oil prices. Thus, electric motors are increasingly applied in vehicle’ applications and relevant research about these motors and their applications has been performed. Of particular interest are the improvements regarding torque production capability, the minimization of torque ripple and iron losses. The present work deals with the optimum design and the performance investigation of an outer rotor permanent magnet motor for in-wheel electric vehicle application. At first, and in order to find the optimum motor design, a new based particle-swarm multi-objective optimization procedure is applied. Three objective functions are used: efficiency maximization, weight and ripple torque minimization. Secondly, the effects of the permanent magnets segmentation, the stator slots opening, and the separation of adjacent magnets by air are outlined. The aim of the paper is the design of a topology with smooth output torque, low ripple torque, low iron losses and mechanical robustness.

3D Numerical Analysis of the Effects of an Advancing Tunnel on an Existing Loaded Pile Group
Tunnels are often preferred for underground transportation in densely populated areas. In these areas, it is almost inevitable for tunnels to run close to some existing pile foundations. Since tunnelling activities induc...
Hopf Bifurcation Control of Subsynchronous Resonance Utilizing UPFC
The use of a unified power flow controller (UPFC) to control the bifurcations of a subsynchronous resonance (SSR) in a multi-machine power system is introduced in this study. UPFC is one of the flexible AC transmission s...
The “Stick-Slip” Phenomenon During the Active Earth Pressure Failure of a Granular Soil of Analogical Material
The aim of this paper is to highlight the "stick-slip" phenomenon in the mechanisms of failure related to active earth pressure of an analogical material simulating a granular medium. For this, a two-dimensional small-s...
A Reactive Power Based Reference Model for Adaptive Control Strategy in a SEIG
In this paper, a new control strategy is proposed for a three-phase squirrel-cage self-excited induction generator (SEIG) connected to a variable speed wind turbine in autonomous mode. In order to improve the dynamic per...
A Comparative Study of Construction Waste Generation Rate Based on Different Construction Methods on Construction Project in Malaysia
High construction waste (CW) generation in Malaysia has serious impacts although there are very little available data regarding the relevant issue in Malaysia. This lack of data results in improper CW management and CW d...
