Total Hip Arthroplasty in HIV-seropositive Patients – Case Study and Review of Literature

Journal Title: Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja - Year 2014, Vol 16, Issue 2

Abstract

Hip arthroplasty is widely used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, especially in patients with steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head. However, this procedure in HIV-seropositive patients has not been described in the Polish literature and is not considered a standard treatment. This paper presents a case study of an HIVseropositive patient who underwent hip arthroplasty for steroid-induced avascular necrosis of the femoral head without significant complications. Based on this case, we propose an approach to the management of this group of patients.
