TOURISM AS A PRIORITY AREA OF SUSTAINABLE NATIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Abstract
Introduction. Tourism, being one of the leading sectors of the state and individual regions’ social and economic development is, at the same time, a factor and a catalyst of their sustainable development in modern conditions. Seeing as tourism has the ability to cause a significant impact on the formation of the gross domestic product and intensify foreign trade balance, in addition to the functioning of more than 50 industries and the population’s employment rate, studying the state of the tourism in Ukraine and its role in implementing the strategy of the national economy’s sustainable development is essential. Methods. The dialectic method of cognition, as well as system and complex approaches, analysis, synthesis and comparison are used in this article in order to study the current state of tourism; the abstract and logical method is used for definition, to systematize the effects of tourism on the social spheres and to formulate conclusions about its role in providing sustainable economic development. Results. The increasing role of tourism in providing sustainable world and national economic development is elaborated. The positive and negative effects of the development of tourism on social and cultural, economic and environmental spheres of society are defined and systematized. The current state of tourist market in Ukraine is studied. The dynamics of tourism entities in Ukraine are analyzed, as well as the main indicators of their activity in 2015-2016. The territorial concentration of tourism entities and the factors that determine it are studied. Strategic measures, the implementation of which will promote the transformation of tourism into a competitive industry, which will ensure sustainable development of the economy of regions and state as a whole, are identified. Discussion. Further studies are perceived in the formation and argumentation of rating systems and indicators of sustainable tourism development in general and its entities, that will allow to execute proper control over the implementation of “Tourism and resorts development strategies up to 2026”.
