Trait anxiety levels in students of the Dentistry career of the Central University of Ecuador

Abstract
This research was developed in order to describe the level of trait anxiety in students of the school of dentistry of the Central University of Ecuador. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out, which involved 293 university students from seventh to ninth semester. The data were collected using the State Trait Anxiety Inventory, which showed a predominance of the medium level (58.02%), followed by the high level (39.6%). 42.38% of the women were classified as having a high level of trait anxiety. A statistically significant dependence was established between this variable and age. Those ones under 23 years of age were more affected by this psychological entity. The frequency of the medium level was manifested mainly in the three semesters studied; however, the high level was more present in the eighth semester students.
