Transfer of daidzein and genistein from feed into the egg yolk of hens
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 22, Issue 2
Abstract
Soya isoflavones are compounds with phytoestrogenic characteristics, i.e. because of their structure, their effects are similar to those of animal estrogens. This is why they are used for medicinal purposes in aging women. The presented experiment with laying hens was conducted to demonstrate the possibility of transferring soya isoflavones from feed into egg yolk to produce isoflavone-enriched eggs. Laying hens were randomly assigned to a control and 3 experimental groups and fed a basal diet or the basal diet supplemented with different concentrations of isoflavones: 1000, 2000 or 3000 mg · kg–1 feed. The transfer of isoflavones (daidzein and genistein) from the feed into the egg yolk of treated hens was found to be significant. At the end of the experiment, the content of the analysed isoflavones was from 396.0 to 412.4 μg.

Effects of genetic group × ambient temperature interactions on performance and physiological responses of Naked-neck chickens and their F1 crosses with Lohmann White and New Hampshire laying hens
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of genotype x temperature interactions on hormonal heat stress indicators and performance traits. Two-hundred forty female oneday-old chicks were randomly assigned...
Postprandial oxidative losses of dietary leucine depend on the time interval between consecutive meals: a model study with rats
Postprandial oxidative losses of egg white-bound [1-13C]-leucine were studied as 13C recovery in the breath of rats in relation to different time intervals between two meals. Male Wistar rats (n = 48; 68.3 ± 5.9 g) divid...
Gastrointestinal tract response and growth performance of growing turkeys as influenced by the whole wheat content of diets in two feeding programmes
The objective of this study was to determine the physiological responses and growth performance of turkeys fed 20% whole wheat (WW) in two feeding programmes, diets A and B, consistent with the NRC (1994) and B.U.T. (201...
Effects of encapsulated and non-encapsulated compound acidifiers on gastrointestinal pH and intestinal morphology and function in weaning piglets
The experiment was conducted to study the effects of the addition of encapsulated and nonencapsulated compound acidifiers in a diet based on maize-soyabean meal-extruded soyabean on gastrointestinal pH, growth performanc...
The effect of feeding linseed to conservation breed hens on the fatty acid profile of yolk and the biological value of eggs
Conservation breed/line laying hens: Greenleg Partridge (Z-11), Yellowleg Partridge (Ż-33), Rhode Island Red (R-11), Sussex (S-66) and Leghorn (H-22 and G-99), 360 per strain were divided into 2 equal feeding treatment g...
