The chronology of the social pre-school education formation in the Great Britain is presented in the article; the author outlines the peculiarities of the development of the system in the context of structural and historical transformations; the link between structural changes in the system of British preschool education and the network of preschool institutions formation, that function in the modern preschool area of the country is determined.
