Treatment of crowdings with lingual selfligating2Dbrackets – case report

Abstract
Introduction: In recent years an increasing number of orthodontic patients present with malalignment. Since they have high esthetic expectation towards orthodontic treatment they refuse conventional vestibular technique. Appliances bonded to the lingual tooth aspect are the solution in such clinical cases.Aim of the study: To present the procedure and mechanism of performance of lingual selfligating appliance. Material and methods: A 26-year-old female patient presented for orthodontic treatment. Clinical examination revealed minor crowding in both arches, Angle Class I and canine Class I bilaterally. The cephalometric analysis revealed harmonious skeletal relations. The appliance was bonded with the use of “semi-indirect” method and the 0.010 NiTi mushroom arch was applied. Results: After eight weeks and two orthodontic appointments the proper tooth alignment was achieved. Conclusions: Orthodontic treatment with the use of selfligating lingual appliances considerably shortens treatment time by reducing the number and the duration of orthodontic appointments, which in consequence decreases the overall cost of the therapy.
