Treatment of electroplating industry wastewater using iron nanoparticle doped spent tea waste charcoal
Journal Title: Journal of Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences (JBES) - Year 2014, Vol 5, Issue 6
Abstract
Potentiality of spent tea waste charcoal has been determined as low cost adsorbent for the removal of heavy metals (Nickel and Chromium) from the waste water with the three fold objective of solid waste management for effective and green treatment of heavy metals’ highly contaminated effluent. Iron nanoparticles doped tea waste charcoal (Fe-TWC) was synthesized and characterized using powder XRD, SEM and EDX. Synthesized Fe-TWC was found quite effective in removing high concentrations of Ni (II) and Cr (VI) from the simulated samples as well as actual industrial samples. Adsorption data follows Langmuir adsorption and pseudo-second order kinetic model for both the metals. Thermodynamic parameters have also been assessed. This study indicated that FeTWC can be used as an effective, low cost and environment friendly adsorbent for the treatment of electroplating waste effluent.

Using geostatistical method for prediction the spatial variability of soil texture and its effect on environmnet (case study: farahan plain of markazi province, Iran)
Soil texture is one of the most important soil properties governing most of the physical, chemical and hydrological properties of soils. Variability in soil texture may contribute to the variation in nutrient storage an...
Environmental chemistry and chemical ecology of microalgae effected by pH: Malakand as a case study
Frequent variation in algal diversity with associated scum and unpleasant order is caused by changes in pH of the algal habitat. Among most important growth parameters; pH has a distinct role in the occurrence of microa...
Heavy metals and nutritional composition of some naturally growing aquatic macrophytes of Northern Egyptian Lakes
Aquatic plants are unchangeable biological filters and they carry out purification of the water bodies therefore, the determination of element compositions in these plants is essential for understanding their nutritive...
