TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS CONTAINING GLASSY CARBON
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 238, Issue 4
Abstract
The study focuses on an influence of glassy carbon as an additive allowing the development of tribological properties of different polymer-matrix and metal-matrix composite materials. Conducted research has shown that addition of glassy carbon to the composite contributes to a change in the friction coefficient and in wear. Mass fraction and average particle diameter determine the change. Good physical and chemical properties of glassy carbon also cause a limitation of processes connected with thermal degradation of the composite structure. It especially concerns in the polymer-matrix composites. It could be observed in these materials that 6–10% addition of glassy carbon contributed to the reduction of surface areas in which thermal degradation processes occurred. Moreover, the temperature at which a violent decrease in the friction coefficient was increased by about 50oC. The results of conducted research confirmed the possibility of control over the change of tribological properties in the composites containing glassy carbon.

The article presents the results of research on the impact of structural changes in polyether ether ketone (PEEK) on its mechanical properties. The polymer was exposed to gamma radiation at a dose of 50 and 150 kGy, and...
THE INFLUENCE OF LOADS AND ROTATIONAL SPEEDS ON BAINITIC RAIL STEEL IN WEAR IN SLIDING PAIRS ON AN AMSLER STAND
The developing world industry causes an increase in transport and train speeds. In this way, the rolling-sliding contact surface of rails subject to load lead to effort placed on material. The result of effort is increas...
INFLUENCE OF LUBRICANT OIL COMPONENTS ON THE CHARACTER OF FRICTION PROCESSES OCCURRING ON WC/C-COATED SURFACE
Wear and scuffing resistance of steel elements (100Cr6) coated with WC/C (a-C:H:W type) in lubricated frictional couple were investigated. Poli-a-olefin oil (PAO-8) containing 0,1–1,0% v/v AW or EP additive and 2% v/v di...
THE CONSIDERATION ABOUT SPREAD OF ROLLING CONTACT FATIGUE LIFE IN LIGHT OF CURRENT THEORIES
Research and maintenance practice shows that the rolling bearings are characterised by extensive spread of rolling contact fatigue life. This spread is determined by construction, technological and maintenance factors. M...
TEMPERATURE OF THE TOP LEVEL SURFACE OF PARTS OF AGRICULTURAL SOIL TILLING MACHINERY. PART I – THE ANALYSED OBJECTS, OPERATING CONDITIONS AND CONTACT TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS
During operation of working parts of agricultural machinery for soil tilling, the friction and abrasive wear of their surfaces occur due to the interaction of soil particles. Those processes cause a temperature increase...
