Tribology Development in Russia and Belarus
Journal Title: Tribology in Industry - Year 2009, Vol 31, Issue 1
Abstract
The paper presents a brief overview of the achievements of the Russian and Soviet tribology schools. The contribution of the Soviet tribology leader Prof. Kragelskii into the science of friction, wear, and lubrication is discussed. The basic results of tribologists from the main research centers in Russia are considered. The development of tribology in Belarus is outlined with particular attention to the studies carried out at the Metal-Polymer Research Institute of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Some new achievements in friction contact mechanics are reported and new instruments for studying surface forces in friction contact and tribotesting at microscale are described. A new instrument for tribodiagnostics – in-line optomagnetic detector is presented.

Theoretical Investigation of Transient Ultra-Thin Lubricant Film During Rapid Deceleration
A theoretical model using Newton-Raphson technique to study the behavior of ultra-thin film thickness formation subjected to transient speed conditions is presented in this paper. The transient oil film pressure and oil...
Static Performance of Surface Textured Magnetorheological Fluid Journal Bearings
Previous studies of journal bearings with artificial texturing on the bearing surface show potential benefits in certain cases. These benefits are usually focused on a specific operating area of the bearing, whereas unde...
Optimization of Three Body Abrasive Wear Behaviour of Stir Cast A356/ ZrSiO4 Metal Matrix Composite
In the current research, abrasive wear of A356/15 wt% ZrSiO4 metal matrix composite has been investigated. Microstructural analysis of the fabricated composites revealed that ZrSiO4 particles were uniformly distributed i...
Characteristic Evaluation of Brake Block Material
This paper reports on a comparison of the frictional characteristics of three different samples of brake block materials. Two commercial brake blocks (composite and grey iron/metallic) and a non-commercial composite brak...
The Temperature Distribution in Friction Clutch Disc under Successive Engagements
The repeated engagements were made by the friction clutch in the realistic applications to reach the desirable speed. The traditional theoretical method to compute the temperature field specifically the maximum temperatu...
