TWO VERSES, ONE EXECUTION: EXECUTION OF NADAJLI ABDURRAHMAN WRITTEN BY ECE AYHAN

Abstract
Ece Ayhan is one of the most dissident figures among the Cumhuriyet period poets by both his poems, ideas and life style. The poet whose maxim is dissidence opposes the official ideology and history. He criticizes and even affronts the official history. His poem Mektup Nadajlıdır Dom is one of the examples of his standpoint. He refers to Nadajlı Sarı Abdurrahman in this poem. Nadajlı is a scholar (mudarris) who was judged by Es’ad Efendi and Ahizade and was executed for an allegation that he was heretic. According to sources his crime was that he interpreted the various verses of Qur’an against the ahl al-Sunnah. There are also other references to Kanuni, garroted ottoman sehzades (sultan’s sons), Mullah Kabız, and Jesus besides Sarı Abdurrahman in Mektup Nadajlıdır Dom poem. In this context this article tries to analyze the similarities between Ece Ayhan and Nadajlı.
