Types of water pollution: point source and nonpoint source
Journal Title: Aquaculture, Aquarium, Conservation & Legislation - International Journal of the Bioflux Society - Year 2010, Vol 3, Issue 5
Abstract
Water is an important element to human life, this is why around water sources human settlements have been built which led to the development of these specific areas. One person needs a minimum of 5 L water per day, out of which 1.5-2 L are consumed as know and the rest is being retained from food (Ghidra 2004). Due to this water pollution has a negative impact on human and animal health and it also affects the surrounding environment. Water pollution means changes on its natural qualities and the inclusion of foreign elements, resulted from a series of natural and artificial phenomena, making it unsuitable for the previously mentioned aims. Water pollution can be natural or artificial and it can have permanent, irregular or accidental effects.

Research concerning the feed digestibility and the digestive utilization coefficient in grass carp (Ctenopharingodon idella).
The experiment was organized to investigate the recovery of additional food (fodder and terrestrial vegetation) given to fish, Ctenopharyngodon idella, in particular through the study of nutrient digestibility. Studied f...
The effect of feeding frequency on growth performance of rainbow trout fingerlings reared in recirculating system.
Growth, feed consumption and conversion ratios of trout fingerlings (Oncorhynchus mykiss) subjected to daily feeding frequencies were evaluated. The trial performed using 295 fish with a mean weight of 5.53±0.25 g divide...
Preliminary research on the anammox process and control of nitrogen compounds in a recirculating aquaculture system
Using anammox process in biological filtration of technological water within recirculating aquaculture system is an alternative to nitrification / denitrification process which can reduce production costs, especially ene...
Reef aquariofily: a hobby for everyone? How an adequate knowledge of Pterois volitans’ behavior and welfare can avoid risks and accidents.
Pterois volitans (Linnaeus, 1758) is one of the most appreciated fish in the common reef aquariology but, unfortunately, a potentially dangerous subject due to its venom glands, which can cause injuries and envenomations...
Studies on the physico-chemical characteristics and nutrients of a tropical rainforest river in southeast Nigeria
Investigation of the variations in fifteen physico-chemical variables and three nutrients in three stations along Ikpa River, Nigeria were conducted between March 2009 and February 2010. All the parameters measured showe...
