Ukrainian revolution and liberating fight in 1918-1919 in memoirs of Eugene Konovalets

Abstract

In the article the author analyzes memoirs heritage of the Ukrainian national movement figure, the commander of the corps of Sich shooters, E. Konovalets, as an important informative source in history of the Ukrainian revolution. The subject of the article is the polemic of the memoirs author with other memoirists concerning a role of shooters in overthrow of the Hetmanate regime, the influence of Sich Rada on Directoire policy in the first months of its tenure. The assessment to a role of Sich shooters in formation of national army and armed fight for the Ukrainian statehood in 1917-1921 is shown by E. Konovalets. The attention is focused on personal motivation of memoirs writing, memoirist’s attempt of an explanation of liberation movement failures of the beginning of the XX century.
