Abstract
Personalitate proeminentă a Bisericii Ortodoxe şi a neamului românesc, mitropolitul Nicolae Bălan a contribuit ca profesor de teologie la unirea Transilvaniei cu Patria mamă, înfăptuită la 1 decembrie 1918. Ca mitropolit al Ardealului (1920-1955), a apărat autonomia Bisericii şi a militat pentru reîntregirea teritorială a ţării, în urma nefastului Dictat de la Viena din 29/30 august 1940.
