Undrained shear strength of the heavily consolidated clay
Journal Title: Annals of Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW. Land Reclamation - Year 2013, Vol 45, Issue 2
Abstract
The undrained shear strength cu is considered one of the most basic parameter characterizing soils in engineering practice. The particular importance of cu is in the case of clayey soil. This parameter also is the basis for the classification of soil according to the ISO standard. The undrained shear strength usually is determined from unconfined compression test or from triaxial compression test. In the simple way it can be estimated from the fall cone penetrometer test as index parameter. In the presented work the results of unconfined compression tests for very stiff, heavily consolidated clay were shown. All analysed clay specimens were taken from the large depth, up to 303 m below terrain level. The tests results: undrained shear strength cu and unconfined compression strength qu were discussed in the relation on in situ consolidation stress, Atterberg's limits and the indicatory test - fall cone test results

Effective microorganisms impact on photosynthetic activity of Arabidopsis plant grown under salinity stress conditions
Salinity is one of the main abiotic stressors which affects plant growth through various physiological processes such as photosynthesis. The aim of this work is to study the impact of salinity stress on Arabidopsis plant...
Numerical analysis of the load distribution under the piled raft foundation of the high-rise building
In this paper, the problem of a pile-raft foundation of a high-rise building located in Warsaw in typical soil and water conditions was presented. In order to describe the soil–foundation interaction, regarding load dist...
The occurrence of hot weather in the Lublin-Felin and Czesławice in relation to atmospheric circulation (1966–2010)
The paper describes the occurrence of hot (t[sub]max[/sub] 25.1–30.0°C) and very hot days (t[sub]max[/sub] >30°C) in Lublin-Felin and Czesławice in the years 1966–2010. The analysis covers the long-term...
