UNIVERSAL-DIVERSE ORIENTATION AND VALUES IN COUNSELOR CANDIDATES

Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the prediction power of personal values for universal-diversity orientation in counselor trainees. The participants (n= 336; 236 female and 100 male) are undergraduate students from the counseling and guidance program at a state university. The data of the study were collected through the The Portrait Values Questionnaire and The Miville-Guzman Universality-Diversity Scale-Short Form. In order to determine the prediction power of the values for the universal-diverse orientation, standard multiple regression analysis was used. According to the finding of this study, while universalism, self-direction and stimulation predicted the universal-diverse orientation positively, power, tradition, and security predicted the universal-diverse orientation negatively. However, benevolence conformity, achievement and hedonism didn’t predict universal-diverse orientation.
