URARTIAN BRACELETS IN THE LIGHT OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL DATA AND MUSEUM FINDS

Abstract

Bracelets were made of gold, silver, bronze and iron. Casting technique in jewelry making and scraping technique in embroidering the details were used. Urartian bracelets were grouped as "open ended" and “ring" bracelets. These groups were divided into subtypes according to the differences in detail. The ends of circular -section bracelets were decorated with cubic, lion, snake-dragon, bull-calf heads. However, there are also tape-shaped (flat) bracelets with blunt ending and those without decorated. Ring Bracelets composed of nodular bracelets and those whose endings are incorporable. Some bracelets were not only worn as personal ornaments but also as protective / talisman wares. Although, animal head bracelets were decorated in detail in 8th and 9th century BC, the first establishing of Urartu Kingdom, in the middle of 7th century bracelets began to be stylized.
