Use of dental records for human identification

Abstract

Introduction and objective: The present text consists in an analysis about the use of dental records to the identification of charred corpses,putrefied bodies or skeletal remains, based on a real application in a forensic case. Case report: A victim of traffic accident was positively identified based on dental records and periapical radiographs, given the impossibility of identification by fingerprints.Conclusion: The analysis point out that dental records and radiographic complementary exams are of great relevance to a positive identification, since the data contained in these documents represent important contribution,subsidizing an analysis or even being the main or unique reference to the solution of legal matters, such as several cases of human identification.
