Utero-vaginal anastomosis in girls with vaginal atresia and uterine cervix agenesis

Journal Title: Ginekologia Praktyczna - Year 2005, Vol 85, Issue 4

Abstract

Congenital cervical agenesis was found as additional anomaly in three among 18 girls with vaginal atresia. Extirpatio uteri together with Fallopian tubes were done in one but in another two of them the utero-vaginal anastomosis was performed to save the uterus. The age of patients at the time of operation was sixteen. The distance between uterus end blind-ending vagina was 1.5 cm in first and 1 cm in second girl. The metal probe was inserted into the uterus through the incision between cornus of the uterus and another incision was done in the top of the probe. Also, the vagina was incised in the top and utero-vaginal anastomosis was done. The thickness of the uterus wall was 20 to 25 mm and vaginal wall about 5 mm at the time of anastomosis. It was enough to keep the splinting catheter for 3 weeks to create cervical canal of the uterus. The menstruation become to be normal in both girls, as well as measurment of the uterus in USG performed one and two years after surgery. A small uterine cervix appeard in colposcopy in both cases. Careful prolonged follow-up is necessary because of ascending infection especially during sexual activity.
