Uttarakanda of the Valmiki Ramayana is interpolated: A short review
Journal Title: International Journal of Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Studies (IJIMS) - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
Two of the four greatest epics of world literature have been written in India. According to popularity, the acceptance of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata by the Iliad and the Odyssey is also ruled out. In this two great ageless epic of Indian Aryan Culture, Ramayana’s popularity is more than that of the Mahabharata. Because of that, many people have embraced the basic elements of their culture with the basic stories of Ramayana during the period of time. For this reason the rise of the original Ramayana has also increased considerably. For many reasons, many critics believe that Valmiki finished his epic by composing up to‘ Lankakanda’. In other words, the ‘Uttarakanda’ of the Ramayana is interpolated. Whereas the ‘Adikavi’ Valmiki composed the entire epic including ‘Uttarakanda’, there are many convincing proofs in the original poetry.
