Uwarunkowania sukcesu praktycznego nauki a problem reprezentacji

Abstract

The point of departure for the text is a fact that there are thinkers for whom the practical success of science is not a good argument for representationalism. The article discusses standpoints that are able to indicate in a balanced way the basic conditions of the practical success of laboratory science, without accepting a traditional notion of representation. We can find those standpoints within the so-called science and technology studies (STS) or sociology of scientific knowledge (SSK). The text in this context uses selected theses of Bruno Latour, Andrew Pickering, Karin Knorr-Cetina, Ian Hacking and Wiebe Bijker. It tries to answer in which sense those views are inclined to accept some trivial form of realism, how they conceptualize scientific practice of modelling and how they transform the traditional notion of representation.
