Abstract
Thevacuum-assistedclosure(VAC)techniqueisarelativelyrecentprocedurethatconsistsofadministeringnegativepressureonthewoundinconjunctionwithaclosedenvironmentthatdecreasesedema,facilitatingvascularization,oxygenationandhealing.Inaddition,itpromotestheformationofgranulationtissue.Wepresentthecaseofan18-year-oldwomanwithabloodywoundontheanteriorsideoftheleftthigh.SurgicalwashingandnegativepressuretherapywereperformedwithanartisanalVACcuresystemastherewerenocommercializedsystems,performingthehealingtechniqueinasimpleandcheapway,usingmaterialseasilyacquiredinthehospitalenvironment.Giventhehighincidenceofbloodyinjuriesandthelimitedavailabilityofnegativepressuresystemsmarketed,itisproposedtocarryoutanartisanalsystemthatcanbecarriedoutinanyunit.
