Journal Title: Journal of Evidence Based Medicine and Healthcare - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 56

Abstract

BACKGROUND Siriraj Stroke Score, a clinical scoring can be used for the bedside diagnosis of the nature of the lesion in stroke patients where CT scan is not available immediately. Settings and design is of cross sectional study. Statistical analysis is Epi-info 2002. Aims of The Study- To differentiate between cerebral infarct and intra cerebral haemorrhage on the basis of Siriraj Stroke Score. To find out the sensitivity, specificity and overall accuracy of the scoring system by comparing it with the CT scan findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cross sectional study was conducted among patients from General Medicine Ward of Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai during the period of March 2016 to August 2016. Study included 60 cases of stroke. Subjects believed to fulfil all eligibility criteria and none of the exclusion criteria were included in the study. RESULTS In this study, Siriraj score showed positive predictive value of 80.64% for ischaemic stroke and negative predictive value of 78.57% for haemorrhagic stroke and the P value is 0.015 (significant). CONCLUSION Siriraj Stroke Score, a clinical scoring can be used for the bedside diagnosis of the nature of the lesion in stroke patients where CT scan is not available immediately.
