Variable Sampling Plan Based on CPMK Involving Minimum Sum of Risk

Abstract

Process capability indices are useful management tools to improve the quality of manufacturing processes and the quality inspection of products. Process capability indices provides common quantitative measures on manufacturing capability and production quality. Acceptance sampling is a classification of SQC and consists of procedures for making a decision about one or more lots of finished items or materials produced by a manufacturing process. Sampling inspection by variables is one among the various classifications of acceptance sampling and consists in a procedure for deciding about the disposition of a lot of individual units by using sample measurements of units on a quality characteristic under study. Any sampling plan involves two types of risks, producer’s risk and Consumer’s risk. It is not possible to minimize both the risks simultaneously; However it is possible to minimize the sum of these risks. In this paper a new variables sampling plan based on process capability index Cpmk, involving minimum sum of producer’s and consumer’s risk for specified CAQL and CLTPD is introduced. The decisions made are more accurate and reliable since the proposed sampling plan is based on the exact sampling distribution. The required sample sizes and the corresponding critical acceptance values for various producer’s risk, the consumer’s risk and the capability requirements, acceptance quality level (AQL), and the lot tolerance percent defective (LTPD) are provided. A case study is also presented to illustrate how the proposed procedure can be constructed and applied to the real applications.
