Variations in origin and course of the Dorsalis pedis artery - A case study
Journal Title: International Journal of Anatomical Variations - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 1
Abstract
The application of anatomical knowledge of the arterial system is important to clinical practitioners requiring access to available sites for investigations, procedures or clinical examination. The increasing reliance upon high-tech diagnostics and at the other spectral end devolved clinical examination skills to professions supplementary to medicine may fail to take into account any anatomical basis of changes in peripheral pulses particularly when they are notoriously difficult to identify reliably such as the dorsalis pedis. Dissection for anatomical study of a female cadaver identified aberrant right dorsalis pedis originating from the peroneal artery as a continuance of the perforating branch as opposed to the usual anterior tibial artery that in this case was tapering off. The other structures of the anterior, posterior and lateral compartments were observed to follow the same course as described in standard anatomy textbooks.

Unilateral two headed plantaris muscle - A rare variation
Plantaris is a posterior compartment muscle of the leg which takes its origin in from the lateral supra condylar ridge of the Femur. The muscle is located behind the lateral head of Gastroncemius. The plantaris is a vest...
A case of bilateral persistent median artery associated with a rightsided duplicate palmaris longus muscle
We present a rare case of the simultaneous presence of bilateral persistent median artery and right-sided duplicate palmaris longus identified in a 72-year-old Caucasian male cadaver during routine anatomical dissection...
Incidence of wormian bones in the dried skull of Nigerian males
Sutural (Wormian) bones are small bones that appear between or close to the cranial sutures. Various authors expressed their opinions about formation of these bones but most of them believe they are formed due to additio...
High bifurcation of the radial and ulnar artery from the brachial artery: case report
Brachial artery anatomically divides into radial and ulnar artery dividing at the level of neck of the radius. We present a cadaveric case study with a variation in the bifurcation of the radial artery and ulnar artery a...
Radial artery variations in interventional cardiology
The increased interest in radial artery anatomy stems from its preferred use as approach in interventional cardiology. The anatomical variations are the second most common factor impeding transradial cathetherizations. P...
