Variations in the Branches of Axillary Artery
Journal Title: International Journal of Anatomical Variations - Year 2018, Vol 11, Issue 3
Abstract
Introduction: Variations in the branching pattern of axillary artery is common. Understanding of variations of axillary artery and its branches is necessary and well documents in anatomical, radiological and surgical procedure to recognize unusual clinical signs and symptoms. Case Report: This report reveals a case of variation in the branching pattern of axillary artery in routine dissection of female cadaver for educational purpose in Department of Anatomical sciences in Tabriz University of medical sciences. Discussion and Conclusion: Anatomically, the axillary artery divides to three parts; Superior Thoracic artery originates from the first part, lateral thoracic artery, Thoraco-acromial trunk arises from the second part, Subscapular, Anterior and Posterior Circumflex Humeral arteries arise from the third part. But in the present report we found that a common trunk including Lateral Thoracic, Subscapular arteries and muscular branches arose from the second part of axillary artery. Also in the third part we just observed Anterior Circumflex Humeral artery. A good view which clarifies the variation of axillary artery branches can prevent from the medicine mistake during radiological and surgical procedure.

Study of formation of pelvic somatic nerves
Variations are very commonly found in the formation of nerves. They may be prefixed or post fixed. Variable thickness of neural roots or their absences are also commonly seen. The pelvic nerves lie along the posterior pe...
Rare case of a five-branched aortic arch exhibiting a retroesophageal right subclavian artery and an accessory left vertebral artery
Head and neck vascular variations are common in humans, but often go undetected. They are generally asymptomatic. Awareness of such anatomical variations is clinically important for surgeons and interventional radiologis...
Nonrotation of the intestine: embryological and clinical correlation
A defect in the rotation of midgut to assemble the parts of the gut in the normal anatomical location results in nonrotation. This is a very rare variation with an incidence of 1:500. This case is reported for its extrem...
Bilateral pectoralis minor muscle variant: A case report
During routine dissection of upper limb for MBBS students, an unusual attachment of pectoralis minor muscle (PM) was observed in a 78 year old male cadaver on its right side. PM was found to be arising from second to fif...
A unique case of midline gall bladder with accessory lobe of liver
During routine dissection of abdomen of an adult male cadaver, we found variable position of gall bladder and a small accessory lobe of liver. Gall bladder was occupying middle of fissure for ligamentum teres hepatis and...
