Varietal Screening of Early Maize Genotypes in Western Mid-Hills of Nepal
Journal Title: Open Journal of Plant Science - Year 2018, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Eleven early maize (Zea mays) genotypes were evaluated for their yield and yield attributing traits at the research block of Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) Lumle, Kaski, Nepal during kharif season of 2016. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. The genotypes differed significantly for grain yield as well as other yield attributing traits. Out of tested genotypes COMPOZ-NIPB (6.89 ton ha-1), EEYC1 (5.38 ton ha-1), and POP-445/POP-446 (5.19 ton ha-1) were identified as promising early maize genotypes in terms of grain yield at Lumle condition. Correlation analysis showed that ear diameter, ear length, tassel length, thousand kernel weight and days to physiological maturity showed positive and highly correlated with grain yield; these traits were used for selection in crop improvement program.

Fine root Production in Evergreen Broadleaved Forest, Northeast Vietnam
Estimating production of fine roots (diameter ≤ 2 mm) is significant important to understand carbon cycle of forest ecosystem as it may contributes up to 70% of total net primary production. The estimation of fine root p...
