Abstract
The main concern of this article is the unplanned and uncontrolled construction of Sistan (located in eastern Iran) rural housing developers. They have designed contemporary rural housing of this region without considering the identity, local climate and vernacular architecture of Sistan. They have also used prepared similar patterns and failed to consider cultural, social and climatic aspects at all. Studying and examining the existing capabilities insist on rural vernacular architecture can be a guide to identify a certain part of the historical identity and cultural authenticity of these residents. This architecture is a valuable source outspread by using local materials and considering the principals and indicators appropriate to the regional climate and culture. Amongst the most important advantages of this architecture is its adaptation to the main regional climatic phenomenon, i.e. wind. Sistan is one of the windiest regions in Iran and the most horrendous Iranian winds named 120-days wind. This phenomenon affects the vernacular rural architecture of this region and the local make the best use of it. Unfortunately, nowadays the constructions in the rural areas develop without considering the climate of Sistan. Overviewing the recent construction indicates that these buildings are not in accordance to its architectural identity. According to the fact that rural population in Sistan exceeds that of the urban, paying attention to rural housing of this area is essential. It seems that through identifying techniques of using wind and making it appropriate for the contemporary architecture of Sistan villages, the identity and life quality can be improved.
