Vestibular and balance rehabilitation therapy

Journal Title: Polski Przegląd Otorynolaryngologiczny - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

Vestibular rehabilitation is an important treatment modality in patients with vestibular and balance disorders. The goals of vestibular rehabilitation are enhancing gaze and postural stability, improving vertigo and daily living activities. Recovery mechanisms are based on such physiological phenomenon, like spontaneous recovery mechanism, vestibular adaptation and substitution, which are in turn the key of central compensation. Efficacy of these mechanisms depends on patients' activity, so physical exercises are essence of vestibular rehabilitation.
