Abstract

The goal of this study was to conduct interviews with practitioners at the institutions of Van province who work as engineers, architects, and environmental planners on the regulations administered for the disabled and elderly in building and environmental planning in the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake in order to describe the current situation. The study sample consists of 15 participants (24-44 years old) who have been working in the area between 2015-2016 (8 Engineers, 5 Architects, 2 Environmental Planners.).The study findings (views of practitioners) were classified under 4 main themes: awareness of the needs of disabled and elderly people, private properties' suitability for the disabled and the elderly, school buildings' suitability for the disabled and the elderly, and hospital buildings' suitability for the disabled and the elderly. According to the study findings, post-earthquake buildings still do not meet the desired criteria for contemporary living standards.
