VIEWS ON THE USE OF METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES IN TURKISH LEARNING OF FOREIGN STUDENTS

Abstract
In recent years, it has been emphasized that new approaches and strategies should be used in foreign language teaching. At this point, it is discussed that language learning strategies are an important tool of learning process. The metacognitive strategies from these strategies are influential in the overall learning process. At the same time, it is a modern strategy that brings students active in teaching Turkish to foreigners. For this reason, students’ opinions should be emphasized on the use of metacognitive strategies in teaching Turkish to foreigners. Therefore, in this study, it is aimed to reveal student opinions about the use of metacognitive strategies in teaching Turkish to foreigners. Phenomenological pattern from qualitative research patterns was used in the study. The study group of the study consists of 8 students at C1 level who are studying at Atatürk University Turkish Language Teaching Center. The data of the study were collected by the “Semi-structured Student Interview Form” prepared by the researcher. The data obtained in the research were analyzed by descriptive analysis technique from the data analysis techniques used in the qualitative researches. As a result of the study, it has been understood that foreign students have applied metacognitive strategies at every stage of their Turkish learning process, thus reaching their goals.
