Violations of the System of Lipid Peroxidation in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Literature Review)
Journal Title: Міжнародний ендокринологічний журнал - Year 2015, Vol 7, Issue 71
Abstract
The review presents the data on the current state of the problem of diabetes mellitus type 2 and the role of oxidative stress. Over the last decade, the number of patients with diabetes mellitus has increased by more than 150 million worldwide; 90 % of cases — diabetes mellitus type 2. According to forecasts of the World Health Organization, by 2030, diabetes mellitus will become the seventh leading cause of death in the world. In diabetes mellitus there are ideal conditions for the development of oxidative stress, the main role in which is played by lipid peroxidation. Oxidative stress in particular is the basis of vascular complications and affects β-cells, leading to disease progression. Early detection of oxidative stress symptoms and its correction is a priority task of predicative and preventive medicine.
