Vitality of degraded areas on the example of Katowice

Abstract

The aim of this article is checking the possibility of attributing features of the vital city i.e. territorially creative actions leading to integration and sustainable development for the local community, the space and the economy of Katowice, for areas intended the revitalization in 2016–2022. There will be pre-sented to the possibility of leading out degraded areas from a crisis situation, where there is a strong concentration of negative social phenomena and spatial problems in particular districts of the city. Using the GIS tools, the location of areas defined as degraded in the Local Revitalization Programme of the city of Katowice and post-industrial areas made available in the Public Information Platform “Post-industrial and degraded areas” will be analyzed in order to identify common areas of space.
