Abstract
In 2015 The Polish Teachers Association celebrates its 110th anniversary. It is acknowledged that the beginning of the union dates back to 1st October 1905 when representatives of teachers from all the provinces of the Kingdom of Poland arrived at the meeting in Pilaszkow near Łowicz. During later years, over a considerable period of time, the teachers’ union movement was fragmented. In July 1930 it was united and the Polish Teachers Association (ZNP) was created. During World War Two and Nazi occupation the union continued its activity underground under the name of The Secret Teaching Organisation (TON). It was then the main organizer of secret teaching and as much as it was possible it gave financial help to teachers who found themselves in very difficult conditions. After the end of the war it returned to its traditional name, under which it has been acting up till now. The union, regardless of the name under which it acted, has always taken an active part in all the activities aimed at improving educating and rearing children and teenagers. The union has sought the improvement of their health and has also created and maintained sanatoriums and holiday centres. It has cared about providing them with decent living conditions and fair salaries.
