WAQF AS AN ELEMENT OF SOCIAL POLICY IN THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE

Abstract
In the article the importance of the waqf institution in the state social policy through the prism of free services that the population of the Ottoman Empire received on the territory of the waqf complexes is analyzed. It is focused on the problem of the development of waqfs from private sources as one of the methods for regulating social tension in the cosmopolitan empire. Special attention is paid to the charitable goal of the establishment of the Waqfs in the Ottoman Empire.
