WAVE ACTIVITY OF THE MESOSPHERE IN THE PLANETARY WAVE RANGE ACCORDING TO OH (3-1) EMISSION OBSERVATIONS AT MAIMAGA AND TIKSI STATIONS FOR 2015–2020
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2022, Vol 8, Issue 4
Abstract
The article compares the interannual variability of the atmosphere at the OH glow height, which can be associated with planetary wave propagation, at stations spaced in latitude. As a characteristic reflecting planetary wave activity we consider standard deviations of the average overnight temperature σpw from its monthly average after taking into account the seasonal variation. Joint mesopause temperature measurements at high latitudes at two optical stations Maimaga (63.04° N, 129.51° E) and Tiksi (71.58° N, 128.77° E) began in 2015. The stations are equipped with identical Shamrock (Andor) high image quality infrared spectrographs for registration of OH (3-1) in the near infrared region (~1.5 μm). The main result of studying the planetary wave activity during the 5-year period of simultaneous observations is that at Tiksi station it slightly (by about 1–2 K) exceeds that at Maimaga station. In average annual activity fluctuations, the presence of quasi-biennial oscillations is traced.

SECOND-ORDER PERTURBATIONS IN ALFVÉN WAVES IN COLD PLASMA APPROXIMATION
The second-order amplitude perturbations driven by Alfvén waves are studied. Equations for such second-order perturbations are derived and their solutions are found. The second-order perturbations are shown to be generat...
VARIATIONS OF FLOW DIRECTION IN SOLAR WIND STREAMS OF DIFFERENT TYPES
Studying the direction of the solar wind flow is a topical problem of space weather forecasting. As a rule, the quiet and uniform solar wind propagates radially, but significant changes in the solar wind flow direction c...
PARTIAL PONDEROMOTIVE FORCES OF ALFVÉN WAVES IN NEAR-EARTH PLASMA
In the study of the ponderomotive action of Alfvén waves on near-Earth plasma, the general formula for ponderomotive forces, known in classical electrodynamics of continuous media, was previously used. The formula does n...
ESTIMATED EQUIVALENT RADIATION DOSE AT DIFFERENT ALTITUDES IN EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE
The paper reports the results of simulation of cosmic ray proton transport through Earth’s atmosphere. The main objective of this work is to obtain characteristics of secondary particle fluxes at different altitudes and...
OBSERVATIONS OF SMALL-SCALE ENERGETIC EVENTS IN THE SOLAR TRANSITION REGION: EXPLOSIVE EVENTS, UV BURSTS, AND NETWORK JETS
In this paper, we review observational aspects of three common small-scale energetic events in the solar transition region (TR), namely TR explosive events, ultraviolet bursts and jets. These events are defined in either...
