WEAR-RESISTANT AND CORROSION-RESISTANT LAYERS OF NEW GENERATION PRODUCED IN THE VACUUM TITANIZING PROCESS ON TOOL STEEL
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2015, Vol 262, Issue 4
Abstract
The paper presents the results of examinations of the structure and properties of duplex layers of the TiC+(Ni-W) type, produced in the vacuum titanizing process on a tool steel surface covered with Ni-W electrolytic alloy. A comparison of the TiC+(Ni-W) type duplex layers with the TiC type single carbide layers produced on steel surface in the vacuum titanizing process was performed. Investigations of layers morphology, their phase composition, depth profiles, and hardness were conducted. Tribological properties (linear wear) of the layers were determined by means of taper-three rolls test. The results prove that the wear resistance to friction of the TiC+(Ni-W) type duplex layers produced by means vacuum titanizing of tool steel covered with Ni-W alloy electrolytic coating are as good as single carbide layers of the TiC type, whereas tribological properties of the hardened steel samples without any layers were not good.
