Weaver's Attitude on Implementation of Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Scheme (IHCDS): An Empirical Study

Abstract
The handloom industry plays a vital role in the Indian economy. It is one of the largest economic activities providing direct employment to the persons engaged in weaving and allied activities. Handloom sector contributes nearly 19 percent of the total cloth produced in the country and also adds substantially to export earnings. As a result of effective Government intervention through financial assistance and implementation of various developmental and welfare schemes, this sector has been able to withstand competition from the power loom and mill sectors. However, handloom industry faces a number of problems and challenges, and these are adversely affecting its continued growth and sustainability. This paper analyses the Weavers opinion on Implementation of Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Scheme (IHCDS) and puts forward some measures for improving the welfare of the handloom workers.
