Weed Detection Using SVMs
Journal Title: Engineering, Technology & Applied Science Research - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 1
Abstract
The major concern in Pakistani agriculture is the reduction of growing weed. This research aims to provide a weed detection tool for future agri-robots. The weed detection tool incorporates the use of machine-learning procedure explicitly implementing Support Vector Machines (SVMs) and blob analysis for the effective classification of crop and weed. Weed revealing is based on characteristic features i.e. red green blue (RGB) components which differentiate soil and plant. Morphological features—centroidand length aid to distinguish shape of crop and weed leaves. Following feature extraction, the positive and negative margins are separated by a hyper-plane. The separating hyper-plane acts as the decision surface. Sample input consists of multiple digital field images of carrot crops. Training samples of seventy two images are taken. Accuracy of the outcomes discloses that SVM and blob analysis attain above 50-95% accuracy.

A Genetic-Firefly Hybrid Algorithm to Find the Best Data Location in a Data Cube
Decision-based programs include large-scale complex database queries. If the response time is short, query optimization is critical. Users usually observe data as a multi-dimensional data cube. Each data cube cell displa...
Designing a GA-Based Robust Controller For Load Frequency Control (LFC)
Power systems include multiple units linked together to produce constantly moving electric power flux. Stability is very important in power systems, so controller systems should be implemented in power plants to ensure p...
Delignification of Rice Husk by Microwave Assisted Chemical Pretreatment
Rice husk has the potential to be used as a source of alternative energy e.g. as biofuel. Its high lignin content, however, poses difficulty to this use. This study investigates the use of microwave assisted acidic and a...
Effect of Time, Solvent-Solid Ratio, Ethanol Concentration and Temperature on Extraction Yield of Phenolic Compounds From Olive Leaves
This study aims to determine the factors affecting the process of extraction of phenolic compounds from olive leaves. Two methods of extraction were used in this work and different tests were implemented with the aim of...
Impact of PSS and STATCOM Devices to the Dynamic Performance of a Multi-Machine Power System
This paper studies the impact of leveraging both static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and power system stabilizer (PSS) on multi-machine power systems. Considering a standard IEEE 9-bus test power network, classi...
